Synopsis of Our Three day Event – Corvette World’s Second Annual Corvettes Cruisin’ Galveston

Friday, June 3, 2016, 11:00 am – 8:00 pm

Moody Gardens

All participants should arrive on the island on Friday, June 3rd at the Garden Cay Reception Room (adjacent to the main lobby) to pick up their participant packets for the Saturday show. At this “meet and greet,” we will have snacks, cash bar and opportunities to purchase some really amazing Corvette related merchandise.

Please dine out on the Island and enjoy this awesome historical city, beach views and entertainment. To facilitate the enjoyment that the area has to offer, we will continue the tradition of the “Strand Poker Run.” Each participating business on the strand will have poker cards available for people with show credentials. For every $20 spent in a store, restaurant or bar on the strand, that person will receive one poker card. At the awards presentation and dinner (Saturday night) the winning hand will win $300 cash and the runner-up will receive $200.

The “Corvettes Cruisin’ Galveston, Grand Corvette Show”

The Historical Strand District

We have been extremely fortunate to re-secure the Historical Galveston Strand Area for this event. The ten block area is full of historic buildings, cobble stone streets, restaurants, shops, galleries, and clubs. Photo opportunities will be in abundance. We will have three DJ’s positioned in different areas for entertainment. There will be a station for late registration the morning of the show. (We urge everyone that is planning to enter the show area to pre-register online for a discount. One may also register at the “Meet and Greet” Friday night [but as always — early online registration is preferred]). Corvettes can start moving in at 8:00 a.m., judging will start at 11:00 a.m. The judges will be a mix of Corvette experts, local celebrities and city officials. We offer many, many awards for different classes and specialty categories. We will exit from the Strand in an orderly fashion starting at 3:00 p.m. Everyone will have free time until the Saturday night awards presentation and dinner, which starts at 7pm at the Moody gardens Convention Center.

Sunday, June 5, 2016 9:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon

The “Corvettes Cruisin’ Galveston, Seawall/Blue Water Highway Run”

Staging at Cherry Hill, Galveston’s East End

Sunday June 5th: 8:00 a.m., stage all Corvettes at East end on Galveston Island, Cherry Hill for aerial video and photography 9:00 a.m. Then proceed immediately to the route.

This will be a 40-mile (one way) drive along the Texas coastline from the bustling port and tourist center of Galveston to the sleepy waterfront town of Surfside Beach. The drive follows the coast line starting in the busy tourist city of Galveston and ending in a section that is relatively empty, and quiet. As along most of the Texas coast there are few trees near the shore except where they have been planted (wind, salt and occasional hurricanes make it difficult for trees to become established), but the beaches and dunes have a stark beauty of their own. Not much beats watching the sun rise over the Gulf of Mexico on a cool, quiet morning. Behind the beaches are low dune ridges that are often covered with flowers such as the purple goat-foot morning glory. Marshes flank the back bays and harbor a tremendous variety of birds, fish, and other creatures. Now imagine the sound of hundreds of Corvettes making their way down the Galveston seawall, across San Luis Pass Bridge, down the Blue Water Highway to Surfside, Texas and back!

Upon arrival to Surfside there are alternate routes to cruise back to different areas of Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, etc. These routes will be available to the participants before the run. Of course you can cruise back to Galveston down the same beautiful route that the run came by and enjoy the many entertainment sites and great places to eat that make Galveston a premier destination!

Weather concerns for the Corvettes Cruisin’ Galveston schedule…

As far as the weather, the event will be handled exactly as it was last year – “Rain or Shine.”

As you well know, there is no way to have a rain date for such an event as this… with hotels, the city of Galveston, permits, Police,  banquet hall, meals, dumpsters, port-a-potties, and the such involved. All of our contracts for the event are also non-refundable and paid for up front.

Last year we had flooding in Houston along with torrential rains, but Galveston Island saw no rain on the show day or Sunday. We – obviously – are hoping for similar results for this year’s show.

Based on the above — and the fact that all bills have been prepaid for the event — there will be no protocol for any type of refund. Also please remember that this is a charity event with all proceeds going to charity. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
